Urwa Naeem

Senior Program Officer | Research & Advocacy

Urwa is a young activist who champions the rights of marginalized groups, especially learners for disadvantaged communities and young girls. Her experience volunteering in a slum community has provided her first-hand exposure to the challenges faced by socio-economically disadvantaged learners. By amplifying the stories of overlooked communities, she aims to challenge the status quo, uplift marginalized voices and advocate for their rights.

As a fellow in the Girl Programme at the Malala Fund, Urwa gained advanced advocacy skills and explored innovative approaches to address barriers to girls' education. This opportunity has allowed her to cultivate a deep understanding of the complex challenges faced by young girls globally. She also serves on the Young Women Advisory Council (YWAC), through which she provides strategic advice to centre girls' perspectives on Malala Fund's plans.

Urwa holds a BS in Sociology and is pursuing an MPhil in Development Studies from Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE). She is deeply passionate about research and strongly believes in its transformative power. Her research interests lie along the intersects of education, gender, social structures, conflict, crisis and empowerment of marginalized groups – with a newfound interest in deep-fake’s negative impact on young girls.
Currently, Urwa works at Society for Access to Quality Education (SAQE), which provides her with a platform to showcase her potential and collaborate with diverse stakeholders at national and international levels to promote equitable and inclusive education systems. As SAQE’s representative in the Knowing-Doing Network Leadership Coalition (KDNLC) by Center of Universal Education (CUE) at Brookings, she is actively participating in research initiatives focused on children and youth perspectives.

Urwa is a fervent advocate of youth inclusion in decision-making spheres and strongly advocates for student agency and learner-centred approaches. This is exemplified by her efforts in driving the development of SAQE’s youth constituency where she employs innovative strategies to engage youth, nurturing their leadership potential and amplifying their voices in decision-making arenas.

PCE is an initiative of "Society for Access to Quality Education (SAQE)" registered under the Voluntary Social Walfare Agencies Ordinance of 1961 (CLVI of 1961) with the registration number VSWA/ICT/611 in the year 2012
